As a group we walked down to the beach through Elephant Hill Winery to meet Sally from Hawkes Bay Regional Council. She bought gloves and bags for us to use for our clean up.
The children worked hard with their adult helper to clean the bushes and grass within our boundary.
The children were amazed by the amount of waste they found. There was glass bottles, fast food wrappers, a bike tyre, a rusty gas bottle and even a bathroom sink.
We were able to separate our glass and can waste into the recycling bins. However, the majority of waste needed to be left in a pile for the council to collect.
Elephant Hill was so impressed by our Waste Warriors the surprised us, by inviting us to stop by for an ice cream on the walk back to school. (This was the perfect energy boost to get us up the hill, again!)
We then celebrated our hard work together at school with a Fish and Chip lunch.
Well done Amazing Eight, you were excellent Waste Warrior role models today!
A big thank you to Lisa for organizing our Fish and Chip lunch today and to all the parents who assisted. This trip could not have happened without your support.
